Ginseng Root Powder (China)

Likely the most famous medicinal plant to come from Asia, ginseng has been used for thousands of years. The unassuming plant is known for its fleshy, gnarled roots that
loosely resemble the human form. Meaning “man root” in Chinese, the name ren shen became “ginseng” in English.

In traditional Chinese medicine, ginseng is considered a cure-all tonic, particularly for the elderly, that strengthens and revitalizes the whole body. In Western herbal medicine, it is an adaptogen used to improve the body’s natural defenses and combat stress and fatigue. Ginseng (and its active compounds called ginsenosides) can increase energy, boost immunity, and support cognitive function.

Asian ginseng is extremely rare in the wild and difficult to grow. The roots are harvested after several years, air dried, and ground into a fine powder. Although typically encapsulated, white ginseng root powder may also be added to soups, teas, and energy drinks. It tastes subtly sweet with a mild bitter aftertaste and acts as a non-caffeine stimulant.
