Whole
The botanical material is provided largely in its original dried form. Some natural breakage may occur during handling and shipping.
Cut
The material has been reduced into smaller pieces. Cut size can vary by product.
Cut and Sifted (C/S)
The botanical material has been cut and sifted to remove much of the very fine material. This produces a more consistent particle size than an unsifted cut product.
Chopped
The material has been divided into pieces that are generally larger or less uniform than finely cut material.
Powder
The dried material has been milled into fine particles. Natural variation in color, texture, and density may occur.
Ground
The product has been mechanically reduced in size. Depending on the product, a ground preparation may be coarser than a powder.
Common Name
The familiar or commonly used name of a plant or botanical product. A plant may have several common names.
Scientific Name
The standardized botanical name used to identify a plant more precisely. Scientific names typically include the genus and species.
Country or Place of Origin
