Bayberry Tree Bark C/S
Price Per Pound:
Bayberry is an evergreen shrub (or small tree) found growing along the eastern coast of the United States. The aromatic plant is best known for the thick waxy coating on its berries that is used for fragrances and candles — leading to common names like candleberry, tallow shrub, and wax myrtle.
Medicinally, bayberry was used in the South by the native Choctaw tribe to treat fever. Bayberry tree bark contains myricetrin, a flavonoid with antioxidant and anti- inflammatory properties, as well as astringent tannins to tighten and dry mucous membranes.
In contemporary herbal medicine, bayberry tree bark is primarily used as an infusion to ease symptoms of the common cold and flu. Some herbalists also recommend it as as a gargle for sore throats. The taste is bitter and astringent.
Bayberry root bark powder is available for topical preparations to treat sores, ulcers, or varicose veins.
