Hydrangea Root C/S
Hydrangea Root C/S
Scientific Name: Hydrangea arborescens
Preparation: Cut & Sifted
Place of Origin: USA
Harvest Method: Wildcrafted
Native to the woodlands and riverbanks of the eastern United States, wild hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) is a popular ornamental shrub with clusters of creamy white flowers. Its roots have a long history of use as an herbal remedy — along with two closely related native species, ash-leafed and silverleaf hydrangeas, which were originally classified as subspecies of wild hydrangea.
In herbal medicine, hydrangea root is generally used as a diuretic to relieve prostate and bladder infections, kidney stones, and other conditions affecting the genitourinary system. Among various nutrients, wild hydrangea root contains a cyanogenic glycoside (hydrangein), the constituent which may be responsible for the plant’s medicinal properties (as well as any possible side effects).
Cut and sifted hydrangea root is typically prepared as a tea, tincture, or syrup. Hydrangea root powder is also offered for encapsulation.
